A 1988 Selmer Super Action 80 Series II tenor is an early‑production example of the model introduced in 1986, known for its open, harmonically rich sound, strong projection, and the distinctive “Series II” tonal character that has made it Selmer’s longest‑running tenor design.
A horn from 1988 sits very close to the beginning of the Series II production run (launched in 1986). Selmer’s own description highlights the model’s open, harmonically rich sound, excellent projection, and distinctive timbre shaped by its pronounced body/neck geometry.
Because the Series II has remained in production for decades, early horns like a 1988 example represent the model in its original form.
