What is a Tenor Recorder?

Tenor recorders are pitched an octave below the descant (soprano) recorder, sounding in the same register as the human voice. Their rich, mellow tone adds depth to recorder ensembles and makes them a vital instrument for advancing students exploring wider repertoire. The larger size introduces new challenges in finger spacing and breath control, but the rewards are substantial—a fuller, warmer sound and the ability to cover lower harmonies.

The Aulos 211A Robin Tenor makes the transition to tenor recorder accessible, thanks to features such as its medium-spaced finger holes, which reduce stretch and improve ergonomics. With Baroque (English) fingering, it provides a smooth progression for students already familiar with descant or alto recorders, while delivering a tonal quality that enriches both solo and ensemble playing.
