PPL, a not-for-profit company, is the music licensing company which, on behalf of 45,000 performers and 5,750 record companies, licenses the use of recorded music in the UK. for public performance, broadcast and new media use.
The Nottingham Youth Orchestra
There are in fact three orchestras - Training, Intermediate and Youth with around 250 young people involved at all stages of musical ability. In addition we have the recently formed Jazz orchestra. Each of the orchestras regularly gives public concerts in and around Nottingham. The Youth Orchestra is well known for the high standard of music and each summer undertakes a tour somewhere in the world.
Founded in 1985 the orchestras aim to encourage young people to play to the best of their ability and professional tutors lead each orchestral section. Weekly rehearsals are an important part of learning together along with an annual residential weekend which is both musically intensive as well as good fun.
Nottingham Jazzsteps
Formed from the aspirations of two people in 1991 Jazzhouse has grown into a not for profit organisation run by six volunteers with funding support from Arts Council England, Nottinghamshire County Council, Gedling Borough Council, the PRS (Performing Rights Society).
Our regular venue at Arnold's Bonington Theatre provides a convivial atmosphere, a fabulous Steinway piano, good acoustics and a space that works well either using raked seating or cabaret style with tables and chairs.
Working with our consortium partner Lakeside Arts Centre we are proud of the programme of high quality performances in jazz and contemporary music that are regularly run under the umbrella title of Jazzsteps.
