Windblowers and Generation Music Ltd support local music makers!

Nottingham Music Shop, Windblowers of Derby Road, in conjunction with Generation Music Ltd have donated 150 flageolets to local school children in Carlton. The school had organised a week of events culminating in an assembly, during which the flageolets were presented by Margaret and David, of Windblowers. The Nottingham Evening Post covered the event and their report appears below.
Becky Jarvis, from the school, was thrilled that the children could take something home from the week and hopes that they will continue to play music!

Nottingham Evening Post - 24th July 2009
'Whistle for it'
Children from Carlton Central Infant & Nursery School were given penny whistles by Windblowers in conjunction with Generation Music Ltd. 156 penny whistles - one for each child - were presented to the school by Margaret Frogson & David Oldershaw, of Windblowers, during a special assembly. Children had enjoyed a school music week, with infants joining junior school children to create instruments, write songs, sing, and perform - they even had their own music festival in the school fields, where they put up tents.

Carlton Central Infant & Nursery School:
"I cannot express how grateful I personally am for your act of kindness towards the children at Carlton Central Infants & Nursery School.
You have no doubt put a lot of joy into a lot of children's lives and have enabled them to experience 'practical' music in its raw form. Perhaps some of them due to circumstances wouldn't have ever had the opportunity to have an instrument of their own but now they do thanks to you.
I cannot thank you enough for what you have done and I hope that the children will by your kind gesture, become involved in music in a big way.
With love and best wishes from myself and I'm sure all the children at the school"

25th Anniversary Celebrations!

Windblowers celebrated 25 years of trading on Saturday 18th October 2008 at the East Midlands Conference Centre, Nottingham University, with a Gala Evening featuring two of their sponsored groups, Equinox Saxophone Ensemble - led by Alistair Parnell, and Nottingham Symphonic Wind Orchestra - under the baton of Keiron Anderson. The evening started with a grand champagne reception hosted by the Windblowers staff, led by partners Margaret Frogson and David Oldershaw with members of the trade, local teachers, professionals and customers. Equinox serenaded from above while the Lord Mayor of Nottingham met with Windblowers and their guests.
The evening followed on with a concert by NSWO and finished with a Buffet Supper for over 200.

The Evening Post's William Ruff was in attendance and wrote the following report:

'The pre-concert champagne set the tone for an evening that sparkled in celebration of a special anniversary. Windblowers, Derby Road music shop and tireless sponsors of community music groups and festivals in the area, is 25 years old.

Of all the jewels in their richly studded crown none shines brighter than the Nottingham Symphonic Winds, so it was fitting that they should take to the stage at the East Midlands Conference Centre to provide the evening’s entertainment.

Conductor Kieron Anderson led the band through a cosmopolitan selection of numbers designed to showcase not only precise ensemble (achieved despite the unhelpful acoustics) but also much individual virtuosity.

Russia, America, England, Vienna and Spain were some of the places whose music was represented, with the selection from Porgy and Bess and saxophonist Alistair Parnell’s breathtaking performance of Pequena Czardas standing out as highlights in a well-judged and highly entertaining programme.'

The evening was enjoyed by all!

Congratulations Windblowers! Here's to the next 25!
